“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.” 2 Peter 3:18 ESV
As Christians, it is extremely important for us to seek God daily for a deeper relationship with Him. Reading the Bible offers us an opportunity to understand who He is, and who we are as well. Although I have to admit, the Bible is not always easy to read. In fact, it's very common for Christians to have two or three translations on hand when studying... and maybe a phone to call a fellow believer. Bible studies, however, make this experience less daunting and more enjoyable. Kim Boettcher, wife of Senior Pastor Warren Boettcher, agrees - she absolutely loves the women's Bible study! Boettcher and a handful of other women have been enjoying their Tuesday mornings together studying "The Sermon on the Mount" by Jen Wilkin. Between the ladies' eagerness and Jen Wilkin's simple approach, this Bible study has created a very uplifting experience. "I love the enthusiasm of the ladies!" says Boettcher. "They [the women] make it so easy for me to lead. I am learning so much from them." But it's not all fun and games. The study is broken into two parts: 1. A review (in the Maple Room) of homework/independent study acquired over the last five days based on highlighted questions in the lesson, and 2. A 30-minute video that gives further insight into the lesson, followed by prayer and prayer requests, taking place in the Pine Room. Where some may expect complex questions, Wilkin is pretty straightforward. Her approach to the Word is in three basic questions: What is the context of the scripture, what is the intention of the scripture, and what does the scripture mean to the reader? Boettcher really appreciates this; she shares that Wilkin sheds light on things that she never saw. "There are times that all of us as a group walk away in tears," she says. In addition to the bonding experience, one should expect great teaching, fellowship, support, friendship... and GROWTH. This is the first Jen Wilkin women's Bible study at SGC, but it's probably not the last. The study made its debut on Tuesday, Sept. 19. The women will continue to meet every Tuesday at 9:30AM-11AM in the Maple Room for the next five weeks. Be sure to check it out!
